Head of EHS, Siemens
Dr. Ralf Franke
By purpose and profession, I am a medical doctor – but over the years, my field of activities has changed from practising as a physician to today’s role of Head, Corporate EHS of a global company.
I acted as a physician in a hospital, in a practice, in emergency medical services, and I served as an officer in the German army for 16 years. I started out on my EHS career in civilian life working as a physician for MTU Aero Engines where I became the Head of Medical Services. Daimler was my subsequent employer: I was tasked to set up a global Health & Safety organization. This is why I added a training as an Occupational Safety Specialist, SIFA. It is always helpful to know what everyone is talking about – so I topped my education up with some managerial economics.
Siemens then offered me the opportunity to merge Environmental Protection, Health Management, and Safety into one unit – EHS. Working with my worldwide community, I have been striving ever since for all employees to be able to return from work healthy and safely to their families and friends. Adding the „E“ to my tasks has served to extend my personal purpose: more and more, I am also driven by the protection of our environment. Again, this has a lot to do with people; it is the individuals who poison, or protect, our environment, with all of us sharing this one world.
One world, one life – we care.
